Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk demanded a three-month embargo on oil and gas supplies from Russia in response to the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. This is reported by Deutsche Welle.
“The time has come to finally hit the masters in the Kremlin with a tough reaction,” the Ukrainian ambassador said.
He also added that the termination of the Nord Stream 2 project required by German politicians is not enough. According to Melnyk, the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin “should be deprived of the most important source of income for its aggressive policy.”
The Ukrainian diplomat also demanded an end to all European investments in the Russian economy.
“The assassination attempt on Navalny with chemical weapons of mass destruction is not only an overt death threat to all critics of Putin. It is a slap in the face to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the federal government and the German public, who were deliberately humiliated,” the ambassador believes.
In his opinion, Putin has already clearly demonstrated that Berlin’s reaction to his previous actions does not play any role for him.
